The International Cellular Medicine Society (ICMS), a professional medical association dedicated to patient safety through the strict evaluation of cell-based therapies and the rigorous oversight of medical facilities and clinics worldwide, announces that Advanced Cellular Medicine Clinic / World Stem Cells, LLC of Cancun, Mexico has advanced within the accreditation process.
We are pleased to see clinics move forward in this process, says David Audley, Executive Director of the ICMS. It shows a commitment to patient safety and transparency.
The clinic has achieved the first four levels of accreditation. Their protocols have been reviewed by both a hospital based IRB in Mexico and the ICMS IRB, they have placed patients into the Treatment Registry to provide for the long-term tracking of patient outcomes and they have submitted to an initial audit of their facilities in Cancun, Mexico. The next step for the clinic is to submit a self-audit in summer of 2012.
The goal of the ICMS Accreditation Process is to assure transparency and supervision of clinics that provide innovative cell-based therapies. This 12 to 18 month process, which incorporates IRB reviews, independent evaluation of patient outcomes and site audits, is a powerful tool to protect patient safety and assure a significant level of peer oversight.
