Tangled is a new interpretation of the story of the long-haired Rapunzel who was locked up in a toweras most of us remember. This time, she held captive (without knowing it) by a pretend mom who was the caretaker of the golden flower that was from the sun. The queen (Rapunzels mom) was given a drink made up of this magical golden flower when she got sick while she was still conceiving the princess.
So when Rapunzel was born, she also had magical, golden hair. This is the reason why the mom she thought was real does not get old. All she has to do is sing to it and it will bring back her youth.
The conflict starts when Rapunzel grows a curiosity over the lanterns that are always flown on the date of her birthday. Her mother (or not) forbids her from going out of the tower to check out the lanterns, but when a bandit on the run finds the tower a convenient place to hide from the castle guards, Rapunzel thinks that she may have a shot on seeing the outside world after all.
